  1. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  3. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before 
  4. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, 
  5. you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on 
  6. details -- some request registration while others require it, some 
  7. specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get 
  8. anything from the simple right to continue using the software to 
  9. an updated program with printed manual.

  11. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, 
  12. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific 
  13. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished 
  14. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of 
  15. comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and 
  16. bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. 
  17. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute 
  18. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For 
  19. example, some authors require written permission before a 
  20. commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  22. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You 
  23. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether 
  24. it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting 
  25. your needs easier, because you can try before you buy. And because 
  26. the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the 
  27. ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you 
  28. don't pay for it.

  41. 'The Psychedelic ScreenSaver Collection' is a "shareware program" 
  42. and is provided at no charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel 
  43. free to share it with your friends, but please do not give it away 
  44. altered or as part of another system.  The essence of "user-
  45. supported" software is to provide personal computer users with 
  46. quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive 
  47. for programmers to continue to develop new products.  If you find 
  48. this program useful and find that you are using  'The Psychedelic 
  49. ScreenSaver Collection' and continue to use  'The Psychedelic 
  50. ScreenSaver Collection' after a reasonable trial period, you must 
  51. make a registration payment of $20 to NorthStar Solutions.  The $20 
  52. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer 
  53. at any one time.  You must treat this software just like a book.  
  54. An example is that this software may be used by any number of 
  55. people and may be freely moved from one computer location to 
  56. another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used at 
  57. one location while it's being used at another. Just as a book 
  58. cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.

  60. Commercial users of 'The Psychedelic ScreenSaver Collection' must 
  61. register and pay for their copies of 'The Psychedelic ScreenSaver 
  62. Collection' within 30 days of first use or their license is 
  63. withdrawn.
